Name: Jace Wayland Door: Door Pass Canon: Shadowhunters Canon Point: Mid-Season Two (Post-S2E9) This is pre-discovery of his Herondale heritage, when he still believes he is Valentine's son and Clary's brother. In-Game Canon Update : Jace is now currently up to date Canon-wise, and aged approximately 2 years during it. Age: 21 (23) Appearance: 1 | 2 | 3 History: HERE Personality: ☜☆☞ Self-Loathing: Jace has become the epitome of everything he despises. Demon-blooded, son of Valentine Morgenstern, the traitor to the entire world of Shadowhunters and Downworlders. All his hard work, his training, his dedication and his devotion have amounted to nothing, because once his identity was pulled out from under him, he had nothing to which to aspire. He's the opposite of everything a Shadowhunter should be, and he's desperate to prove that he has some use, even if he feels he has no actual worth. Being demon-blooded means Jace knows he is inherently evil and can't be trusted, and thus he can't trust himself around those he cares for. He has latched onto the Demon blood as the reason for his "perverted" thoughts about those he should consider family. This self-hatred for his very self has made all his other negative traits even worse. ☜☆☞ Cynical: Jace has never been much of an optimist, preferring to lean towards the practical and logical. Experience has proved to him that bad things just keep happening, so he's naturally suspect of anything that might indicate an upswing in his life events. He's also suspicious of anyone who has too bright an outlook on life, sure that they've got some sort of scam going, or possibly just waiting to pull the rug out from under him. His cynical nature makes him temperamental and acidic to those who he has no patience for. ☜☆☞ Reckless: Jace has always been a risk-taker and a bold strategist, but recently his streak of recklessness has grown very wide. He no longer considers the risk to himself when he jumps head-first into dangerous situations. His lack of self-worth means he'll jump in the line of fire to save everyone else but himself. Where once he would make careful plans, get back up, and execute things to the best advantage, now he simply charges forward and hopes for the best. ☜☆☞ Emotionally Repressed: Like most Shadowhunters, Jace was raised to believe that emotions were a weakness and a distraction. In Jace, that means that he simply represses his feelings and never lets them out. He uses terrible coping strategies like sex and alcohol to distract himself, or throws himself into dangerous missions to prevent from having to actually feel things. True emotions are things to be hidden and ignored, or risk losing his edge as a Shadowhunter. Despite doing his best to ignore them, he actually does feel things, and usually very deeply, which only contributes to his feelings of being a failure at what he should be. ☜☆☞ Protective: Despite his hatred of himself, Jace is incredibly protective of his friends and those he considers family. He would, in most cases, quite willingly sacrifice his own life to protect the people he cares about. It means he can be incredibly hostile to those he views as an outsider or a threat to his small circle of protected people. He has no patience for anyone who can't help look after his loved ones, or themselves. ☜☆☞ Dedicated: Dutiful, and responsible, Jace has always taken his calling as Shadowhunter very seriously. He has taken the early lessons he was given in life and formed a core of independent self-possession that masks the massive self-doubt and insecurity he hides from everyone else- including himself. He throws himself into his job as a Shadowhunter 110%, and doesn't allow room for anything else in his life. Despite the fact that he avidly loves to read, can play piano masterfully, and in fact, feels things quite deeply, he dismisses anything that isn't related to his purposes of being the best of the best. Jace Wayland had a hard childhood, raised by a man who was not what he pretended to be, and used harsh, brutal means to teach Jace the important lessons he felt Jace needed to learn, to hone Jace into the ultimate weapon for his own selfish plans for the future. As such, Jace developed a sarcastic, defensive wit, with a sharp temperament and an arrogant attitude which he uses to hide his insecurities. Jace appears to hold most people in disdain, with little patience for those he considers less capable. He can be seen as self-centered, and extremely smug, knowing he is good looking. He does have charm and charisma, when he chooses to use it. He has been training his entire life to be the best of the Shadowhunters. He has been doing so since he was extremely young, and it shows in his combat skills. In truth, Jace would rather be fighting than anything, because when he fights, his fears, his purpose and his heart are all working towards the same goal. Despite his upbringing, Jace actually has a strong moral code. He is loyal, dedicated to his duty and willing to make the hard decisions to do what is right, up to and including making the sacrifice himself if it comes to it. He can however, be rather cruel and vindictive to those he feels are a threat to those he loves. In the end, however, the person for whom he has the least tolerance or love for is himself. Powers and Abilities: Jace possesses a variety of enhanced physical and mental abilities, including enhanced strength, speed, agility, stamina, and coordination, which continue to improve over time and practice. ☜☆☞ The Sight: As a Shadowhunter, Jace can easily see through most magical illusions and glamours. ☜☆☞ Runic magic: All Shadowhunters are able to apply runes on their skin without any real danger. These Marks, in turn, give varied effects that serve to benefit the wearer. ☜☆☞ Use of heavenly weapons: Jace is also able to use and call on the power of angels for his seraph blade, as well as to handle any heavenly weapons or objects. ☜☆☞ Parabatai bond: Due to his parabatai bond with Alec Lightwood, Jace is able to call on more strength in battle. The runes drawn on him by Alec also give a considerably stronger effect. ☜☆☞ Expert hand-to-hand combatant: Jace is highly skilled in armed and unarmed combat. ☜☆☞ Expert swordsman: Jace is highly skilled and proficient in swordsmanship. Inventory: ☜☆☞ Morgenstern family ring: Being brought up under Valentine's care, Jace owned a Morgenstern ring as a child but believed for years that it was a Wayland family ring. ☜☆☞ Stele: Jace's stele is a Shadowhunter tool used to draw and activate his runes. ☜☆☞ Seraph Blade: A magical sword, when deactivated it looks like a plain metal tube until activated by a Shadowhunter.
